Descrizione libro . In two volumes, 1866. Hardcover. Condizione libro: GOOD. An interesting biographical work on this English divine, known as Robertson of Brighton. The second edition. With a bookbinder's label for Burn, Kirby St, to the rear pastedown of Volume I. Featuring guarded portrait frontispieces to each volume. Complete in two volumes. Frederick William Robertson (1816-1853) entered the Church in 1840, having been influenced by a careful study of the Bible at Oxford. He carried out ministerial work in Winchester and later Cheltenham, but was assailed bydevotional asceticism and a questioning spirit. In 1847, he entered his most famous ministry at Holy Trinity Church, Brighton, where his brilliant and sincere sermons on the principles of the spiritual life attracted audiences of all classes and religious beliefs. Condition: In cloth bindings. Externally, bumped, and a little rubbed. Front hinge of Volume I strained, with rear hinge slightly strained. Internally, generally firmly bound, although strained in places, with the frontispiece of Volume II detached but present. The front blanks have been removed.
