Boards marked and rubbed (matt paper used is very susceptible to marking). Top edge gilt, others uncut. Light tanning to free endpapers. In ink to front free endpaper, written boldly: 'Howard Bligh St George / from his wife / Xmas 1921' [and in pencil] pages 219 / & A.2'. (on page 219, printed in red: '1913 St. George, H.A. B., 2nd Lt. 1st Life Gds. France (k. 15.11.14). O/w contents clean and bright. Binding firm and square. Extra title paper labels inserted at gutter to rear of book. Loosely inserted, a form 'Eton War List' inviting corrections, and a slightly silvered b/w photograph of a half-length statue of a young child. A Very Good copy. Printed on handmade paper in black with red rubrication of those that were killed during the war. Laid in is blank correction slip and 12 page supplement of the places where all 1,031 Etonians were killed. With spare printed label and complete with the separately published 'Supplement' printed on laid paper in red and black. Title-page designed by Reynolds Stone. The work was privately printed in the Riccardi Press fount by Philip Lee Warner, publisher to the Medici Society. The work as whole lists over 5650 Etonians and Old Etonians who served, of whom over 1150 were killed. Appendixes cover those serving in the Red Cross and YMCA, members of staff of the college, and distribution statistics (with awards, ROH and names of those interned). No fewer than 13 Etonians and Old Etonians were awarded the Victoria Cross. Increasingly scarce, especially in this condition. Codice articolo 21511
