This Book is in Good Condition. Clean Copy With Light Amount of Wear. 100% Guaranteed. Summary: Lyman Frank Baum (May 15, 1856 - May 6, 1919) was an American author of children's books, best known for writing The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. He wrote thirteen novel sequels, nine other fantasy novels, and a host of other works (55 novels in total, plus four "lost" novels, 83 short stories, over 200 poems, an unknown number of scripts, and many miscellaneous writings), and made numerous attempts to bring his works to the stage and screen. His works predicted such century-later commonplaces as television, augmented reality, laptop computers (The Master Key), wireless telephones (Tik-Tok of Oz), women in high risk, action-heavy occupations (Mary Louise in the Country), and the ubiquity of advertising on clothing (Aunt Jane's Nieces at Work).-wikipedia. L'autore: L(yman) Frank Baum (1856-1919) American journalist and writer, whose best-known book is The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900). Baum's stories about the imaginary Land of Oz belong to the classics of fantasy literature. The Oz series was long shunned by librarians, and neglected by scholars of children's literature. Baum has often been compared to Lewis Carroll - they both had a girl as the protagonist in their most famous works, but Baum's Dorothy is a sugarized version of the sceptic and cynical Alice. Baum was born in Chittenango, New York. His father was an oil magnate and his mother was a women's rights activist. He grew up on a large estate in upstate New York along with his seven siblings. After spending a couple of years in a rigid military school, Baun became a reporter. His father owned a number of theaters and Baum left his writing career to take up acting. After numerous failed jobs including selling the family's axle grease product, Baum made his debut as a novelist in 1897 with his Mother Good in Prose which introduced a farm girl named Dorothy. Baum wanted to create fairy tales that did not scare children like the Brothers Grimm tales did. Baum's second book was The Wonderful Wizard of Oz which he published at his own expense. The book sold over 90,000 copies in two years. Baum went on the produce 62 books, most of them for children. Born with a weak heart, Baum suffered from ill health through much of his life. He died in May of 1919 in Hollywood.
