The editors of "Modern Publicity" attempted to print the best advertising of their time. At the height of the Depression, however, the posters etc. portrayed within were "less extravagant" than in the past and reflected "the economic problems which still continue to trouble the world" (Introduction). Despite this, the ads are strikingly attractive and for modern viewers may evoke a poignant feeling of nostalgia. A case in point - it's been some time since "Canadian Pacific" advertised itself as the "World's Greatest Travel System" (16). An article called "What are the fruits of the new typpography?" by John C. Tarr tucked in rear.
