Riassunto: Miles Davis was one of the most innovative musicians of the 20th century. This book will shed some insight into the music and soloing devices he used during his earlier periods. First, to help the student better understand Miles' early bebop style of improvising, the authors discuss the use of guide tones, bebop scales, three to flat nine, targeting, and other techniques commonly used in the bebop language. Then the text presents numerous one-, two-, and three-measure jazz lines in Miles' style grouped by the harmony over which they can be used. The accompanying play-along CD provides the rhythm parts for each section, including a track for each section that modulates through the cycle of fourths, helping you master the phrases in all keys. By combining various lines, musicians will be able to mix and match numerous combinations of these lines to play over ii-V-I progressions, turnarounds, and other harmonic situations. Incorporate these essential jazz lines into your vocabulary and you will be able to create your own lines in the style of Miles Davis.

The Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival awarded Corey with outstanding big band guitarist in 1995 and outstanding solo guitarist in 1995 and 1996. Seeking a masters degree in jazz performance, Corey sought out renowned jazz guitar educator, Jack Petersen and began studies as a graduate teaching assistant at the University of South Florida. He received his masters degree in jazz performance in the spring of 1999. Jack Petersen retired that same year and Corey was hired to take his place as the adjunct guitar instructor. Later studies included lessons with Robert Malmberg and world renowned jazz pianist Bengt Hallberg. After graduation from Kungsholmens Gymnasium in 1981, Per spent six months performing in the inaugural Royal Swedish Army Band. In 1984 Per was the recipient of the Pat Coil Jazz Piano Scholarship to North Texas State University, one of the largest music schools in the United States, internationally known for its outstanding jazz studies program. His two years at NTSU included intense studies in performance and arranging with Steve Harlos, Dan Hearle, Paris Rutherford and another important influence, the legendary jazz artist and educator Rich Matteson. While at school Per was selected to play piano with the NTSU Jazz Singers on their 1985 tour of Taiwan. And in 1986 Per won a national audition and spent the summer performing in Disney's All-American College Orchestra at EPCOT Center. Per has performed with a variety of jazz and show artists including Rich Matteson, Louis Bellson, Clark Terry, Rosemary Clooney, Bobby Shew, Nick Brignola, John Green, Maureen McGovern, Rich Little, Mike Post and Mark Murphy.
