104 PAGES. THE MAJORITY OF THE MAGAZINE IS A REPORT ON THE 1968 DEMOCRATIC CONVENTION. IT DESCRIBES IN DETAIL BY FIRST HAND CONVENTION WITNESSES AND PROTESTORS ON MICHIGAN AVENUE AND IN THE PARKS WHO RELATE THE POLICE AND NATIONAL GUARD BRUTALITY INCLUDING THE CLUBBING OF PROTESTERS AND NEWSMEN, EVEN THE BEATINGS OF YOUTHS IN McCARTHY'S HOTEL SUITE ON THE 15TH FLOOR OF THE CONRAD HILTON HOTEL AND THE SETTING UP OF AN "EMERGENCY ROOM" IN McCARTHY'S HOTEL SUITE TO TREAT THE BEATEN AND BLEEDING YOUTHS. THE DISCUSSIONS DEPICT THE CHAOS THAT RAMPAGED IN CHICAGO DURING THE CONVENTION. THERE ARE MULTIPLE B/W AND COLOR PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE RIOTING AND POLICE ACTIONS, THE TEAR GASSING OF PROTESTERS AND THE BAYONET ARMED THREATENING BY THE NATIONAL GUARD THAT OUTNUMBERED THE PROTESTERS BY 2 TO 1. THERE ARE ARTICLES ENTITLED; "THE BATTLE OF CHICAGO", "THE VIETNAM DEBATE", "LOTS OF LAW, LITTLE ORDER" ,"BOSS DALEY'S FATHERLY FIST" , "TELEVISION'S MOST GRIPPING CONVENTION" ,"BEAT THE PRESS" AND " SIZING UP CHICAGO. THE MAJORITY OF THE REPORTS ARE ABOUT THE POLICE BEATINGS OF THE YOUTHS AND NEWSMEN ON THE STREETS AND EVEN IN THE CONVENTION CENTER. OF INTEREST, THERE IS LITTLE DISCUSSION ABOUT THE PROTESTER GROUPS OR THEIR LEADERS SUCH AS ABBIE HOFFMAN, JERRY RUBIN AND THE YIPPIES. A SINGLE QUOTE FROM THE LEAD ARTICLE SUMS IT UP, "THE BATTLE OF CHICAGO BEGAN EVEN BEFORE THE CONVENTION OPENED - AND BEFORE IT SUBSIDED MORE THAN 700 CIVILIANS AND 83 POLICE WERE INJURED, 653 PERSONS, RANGING FROM RAGGEDY REVOLUTIONARIES WAVING VIET CONG FLAGS TO BOOKISH McCARTHY SOPHOMORES, WERE JAILED. MIRACULOUSLY, NO ONE WAS KILLED BY CHICAGO MAYOR RICHARD DALEY'S BEEFY COPS, WHO WENT ON A SUSTAINED RAMPAGE UNPRECEDENTED OUTSIDE THE MOST UNRECONSTRUCTED BOONDOCKS OF DIXIE. "KILL 'EM! KILL 'EM!" THEY SHOUTED AS THEY CHARGED THE HARUM-SCARUM MOBS OF HIPPIES, YIPPIES, PEACE DEMONSTRATORS AND INNOCENT ONLOOKERS IN THE PARKS AND ON THE STREETS OUTSIDE THE CONVENTION HEADQUARTERS HOTEL, THE VAST CONRAD HILTON. TIME AND AGAIN, THE POLICE SINGLED OUT REPORTERS AND PHOTOGRAPHERS FOR CLUBBING - ATTACKING MORE THAN A SCORE. A VALUABLE CRONICLE OF THE HAPPENINGS DURING THE RIOTING AT THE CHICAGO 1968 DEMOCRATIC CONVENTION. Size: 8 1/4" X 11 1/16". Codice inventario libreria 68011
