A series of 20 pictures which affectionately & accurately portray the cycle of Jewish family life including Sabbath, the major holidays & home life. The series reflects the emergence of German Jewry from the ghetto into the modern world. The German artist Moritz Oppenheim (1800-1882) was the first professional Jewish painter. He was born into an observant family & lived most of his long life in Frankfurt-on-Main. The series was his most important & famous work. This pamphlet is from a book of the Oppenheim Pictures that was published in Frankfurt in 1886. The introduction & description of the pictures is by Dr. Leopold Stein.
