L'autore: My name is Frances Cruz Espinosa. I am a first generation Mexican-American, born in East Los Angeles. I have five grown children, six grandchildren; one great-grandson. I have resided in Bakersfield, California since 1967, and was employed by the Kern County Sheriff's Office for 28 years until I retired in 1994. upon retiring, I had more time to devote to hobbies and was motivated to write this story due to requests from members of my family wanting to know about their grandparents and family roots. My parents came from Chihuahua, Mexico and married in El Paso, Texas in 1922. They promptly migrated to Fresno, California and had their first-born child, and then moved to Los Angeles, California where four children were born. Eventually, they settled in Kern County in 1930 where they had the rest of their children. They later died and are buried here. I have always written poems and small articles, and this humble effort is my first attempt at doing a long story. I never received a formal education in writing and I am self-taught. Soon after I begun this arduous feat, I became very inspired in sharing the great admiration I still feel for my persevering and brave parents. Their ultimate passing left me devoid of the profoundest of my worldly desires, after my children. Therefore, by writing their story, my wish is to bestow upon them the great honor they so richly deserve.
