Riassunto: Pittsburgh's public transportation system started after the great fire of 1845. First came the primitive omnibus, next the horse car and then the cable car. In time the marvel of electricity was harnessed to expand and propel the city street railway system cars. But these lines served only the flat lands until the technology of the inclined plane was built to conquer Pittburgh's hills. This new book celebrates in word and photos the rise of Pittsburgh's public transit systen during the pioneer years 1850 to 1900 and the men who conceived, financed, built and operated them.
