Printed Madrid Por Gomez Fuentenebro & Co. 1807. THREE volumes, numbered on spine. Bound in polished tree calf, spines gilt with morocco labels rubbed, marbled endpapers. The SPANISH anthology includes lenghty introduction by the edtitor with some notes on the poets included; Lope de Vega, Quevedo etc. An attractive set. Vol 1: (424pp ) . Vol 2: (428pp.) Vol 3: (490pp). Volume 3 is very interesting and unique in that in total there are 489 numbered pages, plus one blank page which would have been 490 if numbered. There are 30 signatures of 8 pages, and 31 signatures of 6 pages. In signature 9, leaf 2, (ie.pages 131-132) this is badly torn with the loss of two-thirds of the text. BUT in signature 31, although wrongly made up, includes the torn leaf (pp 131-132) from signature 9 and collates as follows: 31.1 pp 481-2 2 pp 131-2 3 pp 485-6 4 pp 483-4 5 pp 489-90 6 pp 487-8 It is very difficult to explain how this curious error has occurred without removing the binding and checking the folding leaves in the final signature. Was signature 31 (leaf 2 ) included because the torn leaf in signature 9 had already been noticed? Whatever the reason or situation, the volume is complete.Ref M. Codice articolo 002016
