First Edition. Signed and inscribed by the author ÔLudÕ - Ludwig Shabazian - to Grace T. Gaskell, his proofreader for this book. Inscribed: ÒTo MY proofreader, I should say SUPER-proofreader, with sincerest thanks for the ÔbullsÕ she caught and the embarrassment she saved me. To Grace T. Gaskell, with sincere thanks. Lud. Sept. 11, 1936.Ó Laid in is a small typed note of reply from Grace to Lud, dated September 14, 1936, in which she thanks him for the book and the opportunity to work with him on this project. Slightly used copy with some rubbing to the lettering at the spine and front board and with very minor edge wear in a lightly dust soiled dust jacket with some shallow chipping and small tears. James Walter Braddock (1905 Ð 1974) was an Irish-American boxer who held the world heavyweight championship from 1935 to 1937. He was given the nickname ÔThe Cinderella ManÕ by Damon Runyon (who contributed the foreword to this book) for his amazing comeback from a floundering career which had lead him to give up boxing for a time while he supported his family by working on the docks during the Great Depression. BraddockÕs story was the basis for the film ÔThe Cinderella ManÕ directed by Ron Howard, starring Russell Crowe as Braddock, Renee Zellweger as his wife Mae, and Paul Giamatti as BraddockÕs manager, Joe Gould. Giamatti received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Codice inventario libreria 19170E
