Descrizione libro School of the Art Institute. Chicago. 1924-1925., 1924. No Binding. Condizione libro: Good. Research. Design in Nature. Field Museum of Natural History. School of the Art Institute. Chicago. 1924-1925. John Gilbert Wilkins. Portfolio of about 150 black and white plates. Hardcover (green cloth with gold titles) portfolio with laces at the edges. Plates printed on one side only. Very attractive natural history illustrations showing animals, patterns from Native American textiles and pottery, skeletons, and more. These beautiful plates show indigenous arts alongside natural history sketches to show how design and patterns considered most beautiful have counterparts in nature (or, to cast a more Colonial light on it, how indigenous arts are basically the same as the patterns of scales on a fish, whereas Civilized society is clever enough to notice that and be separate from it.) The plates are beautifully designed, many with borders and decorative lettering. They appear to be the work of several artists, including John Frank, K. Stearns, B. M. Trottnow, P. Yim, Leona McGill, Jean Goodwin, and many many more. Most plates give credit to both the researcher and the illustrator. Many of the plates have chips or dogeared corners, but in all but one or two cases this damage does not affect the image at all. This is a scarce collection. The plates are numbered with a Roman Numeral and a number – I have not collated and I have no idea how many plates are in the ‘complete’ collection. Codice libro della libreria Fred-W354
