Riassunto: When Charley Bookbinder rode into Sand Springs, all he wanted was a thick steak, cold beer and a hot poker game. As the time, that didn't sound like much.
What he got was a crooked poker game with five of the town's leading citizens; a twelve-foot monster with one eye; three half-breed kids; a rundown ranch with surly wranglers; and a spinster woman who keeps five thousand beeves for pets and likes to take potshots at men with her Kentucky Long Rifle.
To top it all off, he learns he's accused of a murder he didn't commit and a necktie party is on the hunt for him.
L'autore: Kent Conwell grew up in the Texas Panhandle in the town of Wheeler, population: 848. His love of the adventuresome West came naturally for his grandfather ran away from his Tennessee home when he was 14 to bushwhack his way to the Panhandle at the same time his grandmother traveled from Illinois to Texas in a covered wagon.
After moving to Fort Worth where he was more at home at the stockyards than school, he earned a B.S. and began teaching. Later, he moved to Port Neches, Texas, where he acquired a M.Ed. and Ph.D. A successful educator, his love for writing about the West has never waned for that was the one period in our history unique to America. He has won short story, screenplay, mystery, and western fiction awards.
Sidetrip to Sand Springs is Kent's seventeenth book for AVALON. The Alamo Trail, Bumpo, Bill, and the Girls, Blood Brothers, Glitter of Gold, Gold of Black Mountain, Ghost of Blue Bone Mesa, Jim Wells, Painted Comanche Tree, Texas Orphan Train, and Valley of Gold are also available.
