Su questo libro:

Riassunto: When I was little, we couldn t see the stars in the nighttime sky because the furnaces of the mill turned the darkness into a red glow. So begins the beautifully told and illustrated No Star Nights. This book recollects growing up in a steel-mill town with its memorable sights and sounds, sometimes glorious and sometimes frightening. Life was marked by the shifts the fathers worked at the mill, and vacation pay, which meant Christmas in July. Special summer days included baseball games in Pittsburgh. A child s insightful memory of the past. WINNER 1990 - IRA Children's Book Award for Younger Readers

Dall'autore: Anna Egan Smucker drew upon her childhood in Weirton, West Virginia to write her first book for children, NO STAR NIGHTS. Winner of the 1990 International Reading Association Children's Book Award in the younger reader category, this book was followed by OUTSIDE THE WINDOW, a bedtime story illustrated by Stacey Schuett; both books published by Knopf. A HISTORY OF WEST VIRGINIA, a work written for adult new readers, was published in 1997 by the West Virginia Humanities Council. Her poems have been published in "Now and Then," A GATHERING AT THE FORKS, and THE BEST OF WEST VIRGINIA WRITERS. With a B.A. from Carlow College in Pittsburgh, and an M.A. from Michigan State University, she has worked as a teacher, children's librarian, and a writer-in-residence, and has given presentations and conducted writing workshops throughout the country. She lives with her family in Bridgeport, West Virginia.
