Riassunto: "The Underworld in Myth, Magic and Mystery" reveals that throughout time, rituals were held in underground spaces, these Mystery ceremonies & myths teach us about how to live & of life after death.
Dr Sydney Baggs had wide-ranging interests in archaeology, psychology, mythology and esoteric philosophies. In recent publications, he has included many of his findings from doctoral and post-doctoral research into the holistic philosophy and design of the buildings we inhabit. Part of this work, (the subject of Master’s and doctoral research), was the historical and prehistoric use of underground environments. This, coupled with work at the University of New South Wales (1975-1986) as Senior Lecturer in History and Prehistory, plus his lifelong interest in and experience with esotericism, led to the writing of this book. The author’s diverse interests are reflected in the associations of which he is a member. Some of these include Fellowships of The Royal Society of Arts (London), the Royal Australian Institute of Architects, the Cambridge Institute of Biographical Research and the Centenary Institute Medical Research Foundation. He was also a member of the C.G.Jung Society of Seattle, the University of Pennsylvania Pre-Columbian Society, the London and Middlesex Archaeological Society (University of London), the Ohio Historical Society, the Environment Institute of Australia and the. He is also on the Board of International Advisors of the Environic Foundation International (USA) , the Royal Institute of British Architects and the Royal Society of New South Wales.
He is survived by his wife Joan, with whom he travelled extensively in search of underground environments throughout the U.K., Europe, the old USSR, Asia, the Middle East, North America and Australia. Results of some of his work have been published in more than 70 publications and four books but this new book comprises completely new material including his own artwork. This is the first book to explore the concept of the Underworld in the context of psychology and mythology, and in the contemporary, historic and prehistoric context of the underground sites where this symbolism was appropriate.
