Riassunto: On July 17, 1902, Willis Carrier, a young research engineer initialed a set of mechanical drawings designed to solve a humidity problem plaguing a printing plant. This design was so novel that it would lead to the invention of modern air conditioning and one day launch a company. The innovation would go on to change the world in ways even Carrier's brilliant mind could not have imagined. "Weathermakers to the World: The story of a company. The Standard of an industry." chronicles the rich history of Carrier Corporation, from the childhood lessons of a young Willis Carrier, to his company s role in pioneering an entirely new industry and driving some of today s most important innovations. The book highlights the impact of air conditioning on nearly every field and facet of daily life over the past 110 years. "Weathermakers to the World" weaves vivid narrative and authentic imagery to bring an iconic company s legacy to life. Readers need not be enthusiasts of history or engineering to enjoy this compelling story of American innovation and international entrepreneurship.

L'autore: Eric Schultz's newest book, "Weathermakers to the World" (Carrier, 2012), is the story of Willis Haviland Carrier, the company he founded, and the birth and extraordinary growth of modern air conditioning around the world. Filled with one-of-a-kind pictures and colorful vignettes mined from Carrier's extensive archives, "Weathermakers" highlights the impact of air conditioning from its humble launch in a Brooklyn printing plant in 1902 to its spread from Broadway to the Queen Mary, pharmaceutical plants to the World Wide Web, and the Sistine Chapel to the Beijing Olympics. In 1999 "U.S. News and World Report" ranked Dr. Carrier one of the 25 Americans who shaped the modern era, the "the coolest American of the century." "Weathermakers" tells his story. Eric's first book, "King Philip's War: The History and Legacy of America's Forgotten Conflict" (Countryman Press, 1999), co-authored with Michael Tougias, has been called "a significant contribution to the historical literature on colonial wars" by scholar Patrick Malone, "an unbiased account of the traumatic events of this war of survival on the sacred landscape of our aboriginal ancestors" by Wampanoag Tribal Historian Great Moose (Russell Gardner), and "superbly researched, well annotated and written in a lively, entertaining style" by "American History" magazine. Eric, the former CEO of Sensitech and Chairman of the New England Historic Genealogical Society, is active in the entrepreneurial community in suburban Boston where he lives with his wife and three children.
