They were occasionally referred to as Lusatian Sorbs. They were a Slavic people of obscure original who settled in central Europe. In Europe today they are concentrated in East Germany near Bautzen and Cottbus and along the banks of the Spree River. After the Reformation the majority of the Wends became Protestants, primarily Lutherans. Small groups of Wends emigrated to Australia and others emigrated to Texas.
