Riassunto: A young boy moves his mother and sisters into the uninhabited Ozark wilderness to escape Civil War violence.
From the Author:
As a young girl, Myrtle Archer lived in a house made of unnotched logs chinked with mud in the remote Rockies of northern Idaho. Bears, deer, and cougar abounded in the surrounding mountains. A dirt road led from the back country to a small town 18 miles away, where her father bought sugar, salt, flour, baking powder, and a few other items. Otherwise the family lived on fish and game and whatever could be grown in the short four-month growing season. Their nearest neighbor was a trapper who couldn't write his name.
It is this background that gives such authenticity to the wilderness adventures of the Woodruff family in The Young Boys Gone, for the author draws on her own vivid memories of what it was like to live in a lonely place. Mrs. Archer, a poet, short story writer, anthologist, and teacher, now makes her home in southern California.
