This is the second 1940 printing of the First Edition of this book per copy right page. Lawson signature on title page. This book won the 1941 Caldecott. Story of Lawson's family history which starts with the immigration to America through the US Civil War. Told in simple prose but with vivid full page drawings which depict the author's pride in his origin, and reverence for this country. This is NOT an ex-lib copy interior pages have no other stray writing, tears or folds. Binding is firm. Previous owner book plate (1/12" by 2 1/2") is on lower corner of front fep. Every page has a full page illustration on its opposite side. Very creative, realistic black & white illustrations. Tan cloth binding is clean with foxing along edges. Illustration imprinted on front board is clean and unmarred. Light shelf wear and foxing along edges. DJ is complete but is foxed and soiled and has wear along edges, and folds. Has the Caldecott Medal stamp on lower front panel.This DJ has carried the wear of this book's 84+year life. Codice articolo 000446
