From preface: "The necessity of appealing to the charitable world for the means of sustaining the Hospital for the Treatment of Diseases peculiar to Children. suggested. the possibility of doing something for the Institution by their publication in this form. Many of the poems have been published from time to time in the poet's corner of more than one newspaper, but a considerable proportion also now appear in print for the first time." In English. The authors' names are mostly hidden behind initials (the most prominent being one M.S.) and soubriquets. Original textured dark red cloth, gilt lettering, gilt & blind decoration. Primrose endpapers (small loss to corners of front free endpapers). Title-page & verso of last leaf tanned. Inner hinges somtime strengthened. Ink ownership name of one Lilian Beddoe, dated 1889, to front pastedown. Fraying to spine ends, a few ink marks to covers. A good, sound copy.
