Some light age discolouration, one gathering slightly soiled and frayed at the outer margins. Blank front endpaper shows some pencil indentations. Contemporary calf, expertly rebacked with five raised bands and contrasting crimson morocco label on the spine. The second part of the work is the Synopsis Prophetica; the third the Apology. Contemporary ownership inscription of " J. Webster " on the title, which could be that of the metallurgist and associate of More (we have been unable to verify this). Henry More ( 1614-1687), theologian and philosopher. DNB, " More belonged to that little band of Christian Platonists which were formed at Cambridge in the middle of the seventeenth century, and the distinctive traits of their school of thought are perhaps best bought out in his writings. The " occult sciences," of which such men as Van Helmont and Greatrakes were in More's time the apostles, had a singular fascination for him . More thoroughly sympathised with Glanvill in his intense belief in witchcraft and apparitions." Henry More is believed to have been the editor of Glanvill's, Saducismus Triumphatus ( 1681 ).
