What is social class? Are class differences declining? This volume explores social class from three distinct but related perspectives: Sociological, demographic, and biological. Questions relating to the treatment of women in class analysis are given special consideration. The second contribution reviews the associations between class and mortality in Britain and considers the trends over time. The third contribution is concerned with demography: with differences in fertility and marriage between social classes. The extent to which these parameters change with time and internationally is also discussed. The fourth contribution summarizes the biological variables that are associated with social class and seeks to account for the observed associations.
