Near fine, clean, tight, square and bright first edition, first printing, bound in maroon cloth with gilt title on spine. Four white dots, 1/8" on back cover on spine, otherwise unmarked and fine. Dust jacket is unclipped, protected in removable mylar, severely scuffed on spine, with wear at forecorners and head of spine, and 1" closed tear at head of spine with clear tape on reverse. Piranesi was known as architect and engraver of architectural studies, who occasionally digressed to produce romantic architectural fantasies which he revised and reprinted throughout his career with great commercial success.
