The Political Economy of a Social Europe: Understanding Labour Market Integration in the European Union - Rilegato
Kluth (international political economy, Roskilde U., Denmark) uses a novel theoretical framework to explain how the social dimension of the European Union has taken its present form. He pulls together insights from institutional economics and political science to establish a new theoretical foundation for studying regional integration processes. Applying the new machinery to a particular example, he finds that the integration of the labor market has been pursued with an eye to harmonizing practices in corporate strategy and national macroeconomic planning, rather than to increasing the mobility of labor across borders.
