Originally, this book was intended to be an extensive survey of all dinosaur trace fossils, including stomach stones, eggs, nests, droppings, and feeding traces such as bite-marks. The study of such trace fossils, or paleoichnology, contributes substantially to knowledge of living habits and behavior, complementing knowledge of anatomy derived from the study of body fossils. Thulborn (zoology, U. of Queensland) narrowed his focus here to accommodate the abundance of material on tracks. He outlines the way in they've been preserved, details how the tracks and track-makers are identified both in the field and the laboratory, and discusses interpretation.
