"The Indian entrepreneur is spearheading India's advance towards the forefront of the world economy. This book reviews and retraces the formidable path of those individuals who have spurred the growth of Indian businesses and are at the heart of India's economic fabric today. Be they 'first' or 'second' wave businessmen and women, they stand out by their creativity, sharp-mindedness, and hard work and self confidence. They have opened a new chapter in India's history by propelling their businesses into internationally competitive multinationals and are sources of inspiration and hope for the young citizens of India."
--Colette Mathur, Senior Advisor to the World Economic Forum for India, Co-President of the EuroIndia Centre

BI"India's Global Wealth Club is a fascinating read on today's India and what it can offer for the future. It provides rich insights on the confusing topic of what makes India tick, by describing it through the minds and intellects of Indian business leaders from a wide spectrum of industries."
--Rama Bijapurkar, Author of Winning in the Indian Market: Understanding the Transformation of Consumer India

"Mr Hiscock's book will prove an essential resource for anybody contemplating venturing into the highly lucrative but deeply complex Indian marketplace. The industry case studies and personal profiles hold valuable and often unmatched insights into the financial secrets of the subcontinent's restive tiger."
--Grant Holloway, Managing Editor, The Australian - Online

L'autore:
Geoff Hiscock has been reporting and writing on Asian business for more than 30 years from bases in Hong Kong, Tokyo, Bangkok and Sydney. He is the author of the key book documenting Asia's richest tycoons, the hugely successful Asia’s Wealth Club (1997) and its follow-up, Asia’s New Wealth Club (2000). He served as Sydney bureau chief and Asia Business Editor for CNN.com Asia Pacific from 2001-2006, and as International Business Editor of The Australian daily newspaper from 1995-2000.
Dalla seconda/terza di copertina:
A thousand years ago, India led the world in economic, scientific, cultural and philosophical achievements. Now, as its economy picks up the pace and hundreds of millions of people are raised above the poverty line, optimistic observers argue that a return to those glory days is on the cards. But the pessimists question whether India really can wrest the mantle of Asian economic supremacy from China in the decades ahead. They point to its well-documented shortcomings in infrastructure, education, health, human resources, social justice, community relations, political infighting and a fractious neighborhood. Will these combine to drag it back to the category of a failed contender? Whether you take the optimistic or the pessimistic view, the one thing that’s certain is that in the years ahead, knowing more about India will be part and parcel of running a successful global business.

This essential guidebook traces the story of the men and women who are making India a force to be reckoned with, in an array of industries as diverse as telecommunications, aviation, pharmaceuticals and biotech, mining, information technology, property, energy, heavy industry, media and retail. They are the members of India’s Global Wealth Club – a coterie of billionaires who range from Mumbai-based tycoons like Mukesh Ambani and Adi Godrej, to London steel baron Lakshmi Mittal, mining magnate Anil Agarwal, mentor capitalist Ram Shriram in San Francisco and I.T. industry pioneers like Bharat Desai, whose family was just one of many to flee the madness of East Africa in the early 1970s in search of a better life.

Their stories are among the 100 profiles that, along with an overview of specific industry sectors, help make up this unique reference work. For India-focused investors and budding entrepreneurs alike, knowledge is power. India's Global Wealth Club is the place to start.
