First Edition. 158 pages in which the authors examine everything from early German (1567) stove technology to the coppicing plan for a continuous wood fuel supply. Primarily it is about the stone (concrete and brick) and clay necessary to build 4 types of (oven) stoves. Door and framing are mostly done with welded, found iron. Extensive discussion of drafting, combustion characteristics, and heat exchange. LEARN more about : Count Rumford, self-care, baffle-plates, cooktop, barrel stove, box-saw, and wasser bladder. TEXT assisted by b/w `how-to' photographs. Also by b/w drawings and tabular data - such as tree growth and heat release. Cond ; Boards are reddy brown in colour with silver gilt lettering - spine only. End-papers are white. D.J. is brick coloured with white lettering. Front cover graphic is a b/w photo of one of Kern's Homestead Stoves. Volume is tight and square. NMinor stain in botom corner. No names, marks, creases, nor tears. Price-clipped d.j. has one minor tear and minor chipping . D.J. has a massive sun fade shadow - some crept through to boards . Both spines decent. Very workable copy of this hard-to-find-title. Minimal soiling. Quote (p. 69) : " Firebox construction consists of slipforming a four-inch layer of outer wall and using another special workshop-built device to line the firebox with firebrick.
