This annotated bibliography uses books, pamphlets, and maps to trace the activity of the East India Company in the century-plus following the India Act of 1784. Through these publications, we see the sometimes fraught relations among the Company’s board, its directors, and Parliament, and we observe the gradual decline of its business as it loses its trading monopoly and took on an increasingly heavy administrative burden in India. Arranged chronologically, the bibliography itself is complemented by introductory explanations of the historical context relevant to an understanding of each year, as well as appendices covering the corruption trial of East India Company executive and Governor General of Bengal Warren Hastings.

Descrizione libro Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. A clean and crisp hardback copy without a dust jacket-probably as issued. [I cannot find any examples of a copy with a jacket]. Burgundy cloth with gilt title lettering to spine. There is a little creasing at the tail of the spine, and a Foyles book label (in the form of a book-see image) remains attached to the bottom of the front paste-down. A Foyles barcode sticker (with the original printed price of £50) remains at the bottom of the lower cover. Overall, a very good hardback copy without a dust jacket, but with a couple of signs of where the book was originally purchased. Codice articolo ABE-1662885460348
