Arizona is one of the most scenically spectacular places on earth, and few photographers capture this breathtaking beauty better than Kerrick James. Here is Arizona at its most exquisite and its most monumental: the towering walls of the Grand Canyon, the molten palette of the Painted Desert, the stony remains of the Petrified Forest, the desolate buttes of Monument Valley.
Explore the ancient dwellings of the Pueblo peoples, evocative of a lost world, and the rich cultural landscape carved out by centuries of Native American civilizations. Take a visual tour of the historic towns, missions, and forts that capture the spirit of the Old West.
Experience the blending of traditional Southwestern style with modern, twenty-first century innovation in the bustling metropolises of Phoenix, Tucson, and Mesa.
The images of Our Arizona range from deserts and mountains to villages and cities, eloquently conveying the states history, its nature, its culture, and its vibrant life.

Kerrick James has been a professional photographer for more than twenty years. He moved to Arizona in 1990, and since that time he has specialized in travel imagery. He is a regular contributor to Getty Images; Arizona Highways, Sunset, and National Geographic Adventure magazines; and the magazine for Alaska Airlines. He provided the color photography for Backroads of Arizona (Voyageur Press, 2006). Kerrick lives in Mesa with his wife, Theresa, and their three sons.
With its spectacular and varied landscapes, Arizona is one of the most scenic places on earth. Beyond the world-famous Grand Canyon, the state has a stunning diversity of natural wonders and geological phenomena. The scenery ranges from expansive deserts to rich forestland, and from stark canyons to vibrant waterways. Arizona is also a place with a long and lively human history, encompassing everything from ancient cultures to Wild West legends to twenty-first-century urban metropolises.
Photographer Kerrick James journeys to every corner of Arizona to capture the soul and spirit of the Grand Canyon State. He presents the mystical sandstone formations of Monument Valley and Canyon de Chelly, the moon-like landscapes of the Arizona badlands and Sunset Crater, and the lush elevations of the San Francisco Peaks and Mogollon Rim. The storied heritage of the native peoples is on display in Our Arizona, from the remnants of ancient Pueblo civilizations to the contemporary life and culture of the Navajo, Hopi, and other local tribes. James offers a taste of Arizona’s frontier days by presenting historic landmarks such as Tombstone and ghost towns from the state’s mining days. And his photos of Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa, Tucson, and Flagstaff reveal why these are among the fastest growing cities in America.
Kerrick James has been exploring Arizona and the American Southwest for more than two decades. His work has been widely published in magazines, and he was the sole photographer for Backroads of Arizona (Voyageur Press, 2006).
