Descrizione libro Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. 1st Paperback Edition. Paperback. The 150th Anniversary of the death of James Hogg coincides with a resurgance of interest in the work of this surprisingly neglected writer. Born in Ettrick Forest, Hogg attended school for less than a year, until the age of seven, and taught himself to write whilst working as a cowherd and shepherd. His first work was published in 1800, and in 1832 he was offered a knighthood which he refused on the advice of his wife. He died in 1835. In her introduction. Judy Steel describes Hogg as a great neglected genius. Hogg, perhaps more than any other writer with the exception of Burns, falls into that attractive artistic archetype of poor man from a rimple rural background who rose to fame through innate talent and creative prompting. He produced works of remarkable insight many of which are in the present collection and whose relevance is no less potent today. 167 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions ,and all types of Academic Literature.).
