Poulin, Jr.'s sensitive translations are accompanied by the French originals, printed on facing pages. Rilke's work in German-notably The Duino Elegies, The Sonnets to Orpheus and Letters to a Young Poet - ranks him among the very greatest and most popular poets and writers of the twentieth century. Not as well known is that fact that towards the end of his life Rilke wrote nearly 400 poems in French.
