Sherrill Church is the founder of Mimicks Face Painting, which was established in 1990. Most of Sherrill’s friends, family and acquaintances were keen to point out to her in those early years that ‘face painting was just a fad, give it three years and it’ll be over, here today gone tomorrow’, and the most insulting comments heard were ‘you should get a proper job, you’ll never earn any money just face painting’. Well over two decades later business is still booming and Sherrill is now painting 2nd generation customers and she enjoys a satisfying and very financially rewarding lifestyle that can only come from running a successful business that she is still passionately in love with. Sherrill’s year-round working weekends consist of providing creative make-up services such as face painting, glitter tattoos and henna body art at birthday parties, school fetes, community fun-days, and shows and festivals, and is very much in demand at company events for business promotion. Her daughter Ashlea Henson, who was a young child when she started the company, is now a partner in the business and is responsible for the creative side of the company. During the week Sherrill trains private individuals who are looking to start a face painting company and are in need of learning the basic skills to get them going in this very lucrative and fulfilling business venture. She is also a training provider for one of the large Hair and Beauty Wholesalers and her courses take her across the whole of the UK. Recently she has been providing continued professional development courses for lecturers in colleges teaching them too on how to deliver the Themed Face Painting unit by City & Guilds and VTCT in their own colleges.
