L'autore:
Ki Bramhall -- artist, author, and angler -- has been painting for more than sixty years, fishing since he was seven, and has notable acclaim in both fields. He has held International Game Fish Association fly rod world records for Atlantic bonito and striped bass and has enjoyed equal success as an artist. This is his first book, but some of the essays here were first published in "Salt Water Sportsman" magazine, where he was a staffer from 1956-1973, and others in the "Martha's Vineyard Magazine."
Dalla seconda/terza di copertina:
"My first bass is indelibly etched in my mind. It was a sparkling summer day in 1940. I was seven...and it was m first connection to a mysterious and powerful sea creature. My spirit and the water and the fish were bonded forever." Those who love to fish describe it as both a passion and an art form. Kib Bramhall, who details catching his first fish in the introduction to "Bright Waters, Shining Tides", has had the reat good fortune to experience it as both. From his essays describing six almost fruitless days casting for the elusive permit to watching a waterspout tear through a Bahamas' flat, he captures the moments of thrilling victory, daunting humbleness, and ethereal beauty that he has witnessed in fishing spots around the world and on the coast of Martha's Vineyard, where he lives. His book reveals a few fishing secrets (how he pioneered a brand-new winter sportfishery on a freezing March day in the new millenium; how he and two friends swept the Martha's Vineyard Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby in 1971). It also talks about the years when he made his living at Salt Water FSportsman magazine. Yet the book is as much about those with whom he has fished through the years and the camaraderie that developed as it is about the big ones that either did or did not get away. "Bright Waters, Shining Tides" includes eleven essays and offers over fifty images. It will appeal to those who are as interested in the beauty and rhythms of nature as they are in fishing -- with the added bonus of an overview of Bramhall's paintings from 1957 to the present.
