A new book chronicles the wartime diaries and misadventures of Ephraim Miner, a Western Pennsylvania farmboy injured at the Battle of Fredericksburg, who spent more than 2.5 years languishing in the Army’s ill-prepared healthcare and convalescent system. Suffering from survivor guilt, he achieved a sort of spiritual redemption as an old man when honored by his community as a treasured Civil War veteran.
