As ifthebrayne be quicker quicker of conceit, and ofmore exact diseretion then the heart is ready to yecld his paísion, by reason of a more compact & sirme temper,then isicnotaunswerableto the apprehended hurtc ordaunger. lfitbe more dull, then by reason the apprehension entreth not duly into the consideration of the present state, or imminent perill, the affcction aunswereth not the cause. If the hart be moretender, then the brainc ready: there is scare andheauinciseoft times, either without cause, or more vehement then cause requireth: and thus ltfarcth in the rest of the perturbations, these three alwayes concurring in the affection: the outwarde mouer or cause, the apprehension of the brainc, and the motion of the hart: according to the varietic & diuersc disposition of which three, the perturbations become distinct in kinde, and diuerse in degree. This is nccefiarie for you to know, for the more plaync deliueric of the causes of the accidentes betore mentioned: and sirst of teares, whose passion is not euerie kinde of griese, nor anie one kinde alike taken, neither though the griefc betaken alike, and the cause iust & true, yet docth the partic not alwayes sheade teares, thus aftected. First therefore, for the manisestation of this matter of tears we are to seareh what kinde of thing it is that moueth weeping, then how it is to be recciued to work this effect, and thirdly of what disposition they arc when iust occasion is ministred,cind the cause be so taken,that readily signisie their inward p?fllon,by that dolorous outward gesture and action.
