After a while, the regular activity would be resumed, the well polished needle simply flying; soon it would again be arrested in its course, the idle hands cross themselves on the linen which had fallen to rest on her lap, while the gentle seamstress raised her eyes to the branches over head or lowered them to watch a colony of busy ants. And so, the morning slipped away between work and distractions; every now and then, too, Augustin could be heard singing in his studio. Whenever the sound of the joyous voice reached the garden, Anita smiled happily, even if the song were a bit off the key. What a simple, quiet thing is a happy day!
