Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen was raised on a family farm in Mpumalanga, South Africa, where he spent much of his time in the kitchen and garden. One culinary arts qualification and a Masters in Pastry, he later applied for a Bachelor's degree in Applied Design with a focus in photography at Stellenbosch. Today he spends his time between Paris, the South of France and Cape Town, South-Africa where he does freelance photography, food styling and runs a small restaurant. Jan Hendrik is the first and only South African to have been awarded a Michelin star for his restaurant JAN in Nice.
