Former Texas A&M quarterback David "Moon" Walker (1973-77) was born in Lake Charles, La. and grew up in the nearby city of Sulphur. David became a star for the Golden Tors, earning All-State and Outstanding Player awards his senior year. Against his mother's wishes, David turned down a scholarship at her beloved LSU to play for the up-and-coming Texas Aggies and head coach Emory Bellard, the acknowledged Father of the Wishbone. At 17, David rose from 3rd team to become the youngest starting quarterback in college football history. Five tumultuous years followed which were so audaciously unique that David made the decision to chronicle them in his book, "I'll Tell You When You're Good," a phrase his high school coach, Hall of Famer Shannon Suarez, often used when admonishing his players for their "cockiness." After his team lost to SMU and Texas in his 2nd year, David was benched, indignified and forced out of Texas A&M by Bellard.
