Joshua graduated from the University of Michigan with highest distinction while double-majoring in honors biochemistry and economics. His biochemistry honors thesis received highest honors. Aside from a GPA/MCAT combination that earned him an automatic interview at the University of Michigan Medical School, he is the recipient of numerous institutional awards such as the Vanko Memorial Award, Sokol Endowment Award, Sophomore Honors Award, William J. Branstrom Freshman Prize, and James B. Angell Scholar. He further distinguished himself academically through junior induction into Phi Beta Kappa, an honor awarded to 18 out of 5500 students in his class. His scientific research, drug design for Alzheimer’s disease, has been funded by a variety of fellowships and he has been published multiple times in scientific journals. His first-author publication was featured on the cover of the journal in which it was published, the front page of his research institution’s website, and was one of the top 10 most accessed articles for the journal the month it was published. He is also the founder or officer of a variety of university clubs and an active community volunteer and currently attends the University of Michigan Medical School. DeAngelo has a passion for seeking challenges and bettering the lives of others. A biology major at the University of Michigan, he was a member of multiple pre-dental organizations on the University of Michigan undergraduate campus and served as an Academic Peer Advisor. During college he formed Students Aimed at Success, a program in which he led weekly seminars on self-improvement. DeAngelo had a wide range of extracurriculars, scored in the 98th percentile on the DAT, and received interview invites from 100% of the dental schools he applied to in 2011. Of the schools he interviewed at, DeAngelo received tuition scholarship award offers from each of them and currently attends the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. To supplement his undergraduate education, DeAngelo participated in and completed the 6-week Summer Medical and Dental Education program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Dental Initiative Program at the University of Michigan, and Profile for Success medical and dental preparatory program at the University of Michigan. He is a multiple recipient of University Honors, a Junior Rotarian of the Rotary Club of Ann Arbor, and a recipient of the Michigan Experience scholarship award.
