Imagine a two-quart juice can propelled into the air by dynamite, a goat so crazed by tin cans that he will attack any person holding one, and a cloud of bees zeroing in on any person bearing the "queen's scent" and you are imagining Aunt Gert and her crazy goat, Eddie, in their relentless quest for revenge on an unscrupulous feed salesman. The teller of these short stories is a young boy, a preacher's kid (which creates its own problems), growing up in a small Midwest hamlet in the 40's and 50's. His stories challenge every reader to sort out fact from fantasy. The twenty-two short stories in this collection will delight, intrigue and warm you and your children or grandchildren. Each story is the perfect length for bedtime telling and each is written in language easy to understand and read by children as young as eight, although older middle schoolers and adults will be as entertained and enchanted. Adults and older children will delight in the multiple layers of each story as the author deftly uses his skill as a story-teller to entertain and make social commentary. You will laugh out loud and wipe warm tears as events as gentle as a four year old playing barber with his neighbor friend trying desperately to grow at least one curl and as sad as a tornado destroys a share-cropper's dream of independence. Warning: these stories are addictive. If you choose to read one at bedtime, you are likely to continue reading until you have finished all twenty-two.
