Joshua Edward Byrd Sr. was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia, his Master’s degree in Criminal Justice at the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio, and his Juris Doctor degree at North Carolina Central University School of Law in Durham, North Carolina. Joshua is married to Nijia Byrd and is the proud father of two beautiful children, Naomi Byrd and Joshua Byrd Jr. As a writer, Joshua strives to inspire people to reach their full potential and enjoys delivering motivational messages and sharing his poetry during spoken word performances. He lives every day with a simple goal in mind... helping others. His purpose in life is summed up in the following poem: I’m painting pictures with poetry My purpose asked me to mold it So that when tomorrow comes All of its children may hold it I’m sharing with the world The polished pieces of my work Ensuring that I plant seed everywhere I find dirt I’m fighting disease with my poetry I’m studying words Researching ways to make my phrases Help ease the world’s hurt Speaking without my mouth To egos instead of ears Measuring my success By inspiration instead of years I’m drawing on experience Using wisdom as a brush As I create a masterpiece that will hang in all of us Centered on collective conscious My purpose is very clear To employ allegory To help discouraged dreams live
