Marilyn attended Judson College for women, a private Bible-belt institution in Marion, Alabama where she was Editor of the Triangle and graduated with a B.S. mathematics-education. She received an M.S. in Instructional Materials Development at Northern Illinois University and taught high school math in a Chicago suburb. As system analyst at Lockheed Missiles and Spacecraft Center, she tracked satellite launches. For thirteen years Marilyn worked at The Boeing Company. In her early career, she published films, videos, multi-media slide shows, news releases, posters, pamphlets, brochures, technical papers, presentations, monthly newsletters for Boeing managers, and ghostwrote for the Paris Air show, Journal of Aircraft, and international symposiums; all were promotional and educational about the use of computing in aircraft design and manufacture. Later she dealt only with computing technology and designed the first text retrieval system used in Boeing and used by the Electronics, Defense and Military companies which won several Presidential awards. She then served as Program Manager of the corporate text retrieval system, a multi-million dollar project, which spanned all companies. She participated in an artificial intelligence project which studied language and neural networks and became a key technology in The Game. In 1998-1999, Marilyn was Promotions Director for the Seattle Writers Association, Ms. Shelton lives in Seattle, Washington, with her husband, Harold Peterson, a civil engineer, and their cat, Ms. Peppermint. She has two daughters, Caroline and Margaret, both grown. Her lifelong passion is duplicate bridge; she is currently an instructor and a silver life master.
