I'm really sorry, but I'll see you soon. I promise you that, Kitten...” Katherene pouted as she listened to the voicemail that Marquis left her. Despite how sad she was, hearing him call her by the pet name only he knew her by made her crack a smile. With a sigh, she set her cell phone on her nightstand and got to her feet, trudging toward her closet to find something casual to throw on over herfreshly showered form. After choosing a black and white plaid pleated skirt, a black long sleeved mesh top, and a cropped white vest, she sluggishly made her way downstairs to the den. Through her short trip, her only company was the soft slapping sound her bare feet made against the polished wooden floor. The Vampiress made it to the den and groaned as she plopped down on the comfortable, overstuffed sofa beside Skarlett. “You okay, Kat?” the Moon Goddess asked her best friend. “You look... sad.” “Kind of.” The Sun Goddess sighed and laid her head on Skarlett's shoulder. “Marquis canceled.” “You're not serious!” She frowned. “Yeah.” the girl responded, fumbling with the zipper of her vest. “He has another case.” “Oh... I'm sorry, Kat.” the dark headed Vampiress murmured as she wrapped her arms around her friend. “It's fine. I don't really have a choice other than to accept it.” Katherene sighed in disappointment. “Marquis is an important person. He has an important job, being the Sergeant and all.” She frowned. “But... there are times where I wish he wasn't...” “There there, Kat.” soothed Skarlett, tightening her grip around the smaller woman. “Marquis is good at his job. Without people like him, I think our world would be in worse shape than it already is.” “Oh, yes. I agree completely.” said Kat with a nod, twirling a lock of her auburn-honey hair. “Well, if he can't come to you...” Skarlett began slowly. “.. why don't you go to him?” “I can't do that.” The petite woman buried her head in her friend's shoulder. “He's working. I don't want to disturb him.” “Think about it, Kat. Marquis has to take a break some time. He's pulling an all nighter. You could take him coffee.” explained the other girl. “And...” A devious smile curled across her lips. “.. what happens in his office... stays in his office..” “Skarlett!” Katherene gasped as she sat up to look at the Moon Goddess, her cheeks flushing brightly. “What?” A cheshire-like grin overtook her face. “I'm serious! Nobody else is there. He's all alone. It's a great setting.” Skarlett wagged her eyebrows suggestively. “Even if you don't have sex, you at least took him coffee and got to see him for a few minutes.”

Kayla Denise Smith was born on December 21st, 1987 to a family of four in Montgomery, Alabama. Linda, her loving and nurturing mother. Tony, her hard working father. Jeananne, her caring older sister. Scott, her protective older brother who always showed her tough love and stood up for his baby sister on more than one occasion. Often picked on for her birth defect, Kayla didn't have many friends. Being a big fan of anime and video games, she began to read fan fiction at eleven and even started to write her own at the age of twelve. Reading the work of others also helped her to improve her own writing. Being drawn to romance immediately, that was primarily what she wrote. Writing was her outlet to happiness, a way to escape the pain of reality. Her own little world. As a young adult, she finally decided on what she wanted to do with her life. She wanted to be an author. Writing was her biggest passion and she loved it. Often, people that cared about her expressed their disappointment in what she wanted to do and even more frequently told her that she should go after a bigger, better career because she would never make it in the writing world. Slowly, she weeded out all of the negative influences in her life. Kayla made an inner oath to herself that she would prove them all wrong and she would silently enjoy rubbing it in their faces. With that thought, she continued to do what she loved. She wrote simple little erotic shorts involving different men from the clan and the Sun Goddess, some of which actually have plot from the original story line. Plans to write the bigger tale explaining how Katherene came to be, how things work within the clan, and the story of the fight for their world's existence is a definite possibility. The best advice Kayla can offer to anybody who might be in a similar situation as she was in is to hold your head high, be who you are, and don't let anybody keep you from achieving what you want in life.
