After a broken engagement, USAF airman basic James Leiper sets out to become a military pilot. He spends the next eighteen months pursuing a bachelor's degree in electronics engineering and then attends Basic Officer Training at Maxwell Air Force Base. Five years later, Captain Leiper meets a beautiful woman who captures his heart. During a test of a new classified weapon, he is forced to shoot her down as she flies in restricted airspace, an action which gets the attention of her father, the commander of a secret military unit recruiting pilots for their new black ops program. Captain Leiper is transferred to Nellis Air Force Base where he is re-united with the love of his life and sets out to prove he is the best.

Jim Mooneyhan is a USAF veteran who served honorably as an administration specialist at Homestead Air Force Base in Florida from December 1977 to November 1979. While in the USAF, Jim was a member of the Homestead Aero Club and logged several flight hours in Cessna 150, 152, and 172, a Grumman Tiger 2, and four hours in a Phantom F-4 simulator. Jim graduated cum laude from Eastfield College in Mesquite, Texas, on December 20, 1984, having earned an Associates in Applied Arts and Sciences degree in digital electronics. An avid musician, Jim taught himself piano, guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, keyboard, and violin and has an extensive record collection consisting of vinyl, tape, CD, and mp3. Jim maintains a Facebook page for both himself and his book. In 2012, Jim re-established contact with his ex-fiancé and they remain friends.
