This book is a collection of poems written by Eric Van Cleve (1982 - 2008) and includes his master's thesis, Mud Every Time, which he completed for his master's degree at Washington University in St. Louis in 2008. Although Eric died at age 25 from a cardiomyopathy, several of his poems were published in literary magazines such as the Mosaic of the Ohio State University, where he completed his B.A. in humanities, and the Subtropics Poetry of the University of Florida. Eric's poems about life, love, death, and everyday situations were written with his thoughtful perspective and sense of humor. After his death, many of his friends and professors said he was one of the nicest and funniest people that they had ever known. As Eric enriched the lives of those who knew him, his poems will touch the lives of those who read them.

Eric Van Cleve was born in Columbus, Ohio on November 13, 1982 and grew up and attended public schools in Dublin, Ohio. He graduated from the Ohio State University in 2005 and completed his master's degree in fine arts in writing in 2008. He died on April 11, 2008 after completing and submitting his master's thesis, Mud Every Time. Eric started writing poetry when he was in high school and continued to write poetry in college and graduate school. He loved sports and enjoyed playing golf, baseball, and basketball. Eric was engaged in May 2007 and was to be married on August 9, 2008, but died from a cardiomyopathy in April. Eric had many friends and is greatly loved and missed by his family and friends.
