Nearly a millennium ago in the New Mexican desert, a brother’s betrayal led to the disappearance of the “twins:” two Gallup-Dogozhi vessels prophesied to change the lives of anyone who possesses them. Alex Delaney, an FBI special agent with the Bureau’s Art Crime Team, is shocked to uncover these ceramic vessels in the cluttered Manhattan apartment of an eccentric art collector. She begins following the trail of their second disappearance from the Lost Maple site, excavated by her archaeologist father twenty years earlier. In Sante Fe, Alex crosses paths with Julian Da, an accomplished potter from San Luis pueblo and her crush from her summer at Lost Maple. Julian is also locked in a battle of wills with his former best friend, Jimmie Martinez. Just as the brothers nine hundred years before, Julian and Jimmie approach an ultimate confrontation, one that will determine the path of the people of San Luis. Uncovering layers of truth about the secrets her father and others have kept will place Alex in the middle of a struggle for power, a second deadly betrayal, and a discovery about how true the prophecy will ultimately prove to be.
