On June 9th 2007, Barbara Snobble presented her tribute slideshow for the Colorado Rocky Mountain School (CRMS) Classes of 1954 through 1959. It showcased a fantastic collection of the early images of CRMS, the Carbondale, Aspen, and surrounding areas, and the natural wonders of the Southwest explored on the many school trips. It also presented a striking comparison of how the school, area, and Southwest have changed with time. Spring Trips visited Monument Valley, Navajo Monument, Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Natural Bridges, San Juan River, Aztec Ruins, Bandelier, Colorado River and Lake Powell, Canyonlands before it became a National Park, and Canyon de Chelly and the Navajo Nation and various Anasazi ruins. Other highlights included images of CRMS students in Aspen and Carbondale parades and views of early CRMS campus (including the Old Boys' Dorm "Sheepy Hollow"). The slides were then digitized, retouched, and corrected; reassembled with a transcription of Barb's narration; and reproduced in this book. This is the perfect companion to the DVD and Blu-ray discs narrated by Barb.

Barbara Snobble was born in 1926 to a wealthy, bright, and affluent family living in Highland Park, Illinois. She excelled in school graduating from high school at the young age of sixteen. Ever the socialite, she would sneak out to Chicago’s night clubs thus contributing to her lifelong love of jazz and blues. She attended Vassar Women’s College and majored in liberal arts while contemplating a law degree. Always the looker, she had her choice of men; but, it was a Dartmouth ski team captain who swept off her feet. Next thing she knew she was married in Aspen while on a skiing vacation. With the end of the WWII, she and Jack, her husband, toured Europe, enjoyed meager rations of wine, cheese, and bread, and visited the hidden and bomb-resistant treasures of art throughout the reawakening Europe. Upon returning to the US, she and Jack lived in Washington, DC until Jack’s dream job came along with the establishment of a progressive start-up school in the mountains of Colorado. There both she and Jack taught at the then-new Colorado Rocky Mountain School in Carbondale and later at Colorado Mountain College, Spring Valley Campus in Glenwood Springs. She is identified as one of the "Pioneer Women of the Roaring Fork Valley." Barb served on many boards active in community programs and still supports historical groups and the arts in between a whirl wind of activity and travel. After retiring, Barbara has been able to go through her myriad of photos, slides, and archived presentations.
