LG Thomson was born in Glasgow, and grew up in modernist new town experiment, Cumbernauld, best known as the setting of Gregory's Girl. She now lives in Ullapool, on the north west coast of Scotland. She was working in a museum in Dundee when she won a national writing competition and living on a croft when she was short-listed for the Dundee Book Prize. She now lives in Ullapool, a fishing village on the west coast of Scotland, where she presents a radio programme, Losing The Plot, and occasionally works as an usherette on a mobile cinema.
