While much of Alfred's life still remains a mystery, painstaking historical research paints a picture of a life touched by slavery and religion in the years leading up to the Civil War.

In 2013, she completed Boston University’s Genealogical Research Certificate program. Currently, she is participating in the Professional Genealogy (ProGen) Study program.
