This is a smaller-size "pocket" edition with less narrative and photographs, printed in black and white. A full-size full-color edition is also available. This small collection of poetry was inspired by the extensive gardens surrounding the “Bahá’i Holy Places in Haifa and the Western Galilee,” a United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage List property located in and near the city of Haifa, Israel. While several of the poems resonate with the spiritual experience of pilgrimage in Israel others address broader issues of life such as the supportive relationship between a mother and her daughter, the slower pace of life after retirement from a high stress job, and the struggle for acceptance by those who are different. They vary in form from free verse to more rhythmic and rhymed lines, from the energetic cadence of "Room to Bloom" to the gentle lilt of "Where Do They Live?" and from the lighthearted "Flowers Reaching to the Sun" to the more serious "Spiritual But Not Religious." The gardens and the buildings they surround represent heritage considered to have “outstanding universal value” and attract millions of visitors from all over the world every year. They provide a distinctive landmark on the slopes of Mt Carmel as well as an oasis of quiet and peace within the bustle and noise of city life and are the result of many years of planning, engineering, construction, and care. Those located at the sites outside the city are impressive and inspirational settings for the buildings within them. The photographs are part of a larger collection taken during the summer of 2012.
